(Haha, Veoh skews the window a bit in blogger doesn't it? Oh well, I'm leaving it.)
It occasionally still boggles the mind that this is even occurring. The One Piece fandom is incredibly lucky. In any other situation, a bad dub would simply stand as a bad dub. A lucky show like Card Captor Sakura might get eventual sub-only dvds. An unluckier show like Yu-Gi-Oh might get considerably less. One Piece is getting a re-dub, uncut hybrid releases, it will continue airing on television, and is likely to get decent merchandise. The fate of the show's popularity is still uncertain, but One Piece is getting much more than a second chance in America. Whatever the outcome, I'm pleased as punch with everything that's happened to the show in the past few months. I must even thank 4kids - if their dub and edits hadn't been so terrible, we probably wouldn't be getting this new dub. So thank you 4kids for not settling for mediocrity, and going above and beyond the call of duty in overacting, unnecessary edits, and poor marketing choices.
With any luck for my less enthusiastic friends and family, this event will somewhat satiate the inner (and very vocal) fangirl within me. I can't deny that all the horror that's happened to this title has made it a sort of unattainable forbidden fruit, and that I've been a little dramatic at times regarding it. In all fairness, 4kids has done what it thought was best. In all rationality, 4kids is moronic for picking up this kind of show in the first place, but let's not dwell on the past. For today a new era is born, a new era of excellence where even considering all possible disasters, uncut DVDs will still be made available to all. A new age of quality. A new age of adventure! A new age of Piracy!
PS. The next person that tries to argue with me that the OP pirates aren't pirates, or that the show itself is pretty stupid, or otherwise blows off my opinion in some sort of argumentative manner without even attempting to understand why I like the show, is going to get punched. I have my fandom - leave me alone if you're gonna be a jerk about it. When the polar ice caps melt and I'm sailing around the Nevada Sea having a great time, I'm not gonna let you join my crew. And then won't you be sorry!
