Thrilling conclusion! Flood story and aftermath.

These are photos I took pretty much as soon as I got home, several hours after the flooding occurred. My roommates had moved my furniture and sucked up a decent amount of the water at this point. ... Here's the immediate aftermath of the flooding.

My room sans stuff on the floor - a rare sight.

The thick padding under the carpet. This stuff is AWESOME by the way. It ensures that a carpet stays wet for several days after attempting to dry it. Many thanks to Ashton for finding us that huge power fan.

So exactly how much water can a carpet hold? At least 9 of these. For pete's sake, how long was that hose on?

After going over the carpet with the vacuum for the 7th time, we at least know that the carpet is indeed still wet.

I already said it but I got very lucky. Amongst the items that were miraculously saved:

My japanese edition of the One Piece Color Walk art book.

I'd picked it up off the floor that very morning, so it missed being waterlogged by hours. I'd also just barely returned Troy's expensive hardcover BESM book which had been sitting on my floor for weeks. My DS lite spends it's nights (and most days) on the floor next to my bed since I use it as an alarm clock. For some reason I picked it up and put it on my desk that morning.

Items that didn't escape so easily:

My scripture quad I've had since I was 8 years old! Aw man...

Only the last 200 pgs of index or so got wet, and luckily these things are built durable. It'll be fine.

A lot of papers I'd been meaning to put in my file box got wet. Some of these unimportant, some of these more so.. most of it was pretty salvageable. My sheet music got wet, making it the second time for them (left them out in the rain a couple months ago). My FFXI Vana'diel map got wet (although now it looks distinctly more map-like, so I can't complain too much about that). Probably the item that I lament the most out of all of them was my copy of the novelization of the Death of Superman. I got it for Christmas from my uncle a long time ago, and I'd just barely retrieved it from Idaho to keep at my place. It's shown some spots of molding, so time will tell if it's salvageable. I really liked that book...

This book I just bought got totally soaked...

Earlier this summer I bought several fake tatoos (cause fake tatoos are fun). Some of them were on the floor and got wet, and, well, they transfer onto that clear plastic when that happens.

These are not very useful to me.

Mr. Genius Car Wash finally showed up to our house several days after the incident. He is quoted as saying "wow, that really sucks... keep me posted on what happens." Note: If you ever find yourself in a situation where you've flooded someone's house, it's probably polite to ask how extensive the damage was. If you don't have the means to help pay for damaged items, you might at least offer to help vacuum carpets or move furniture. If you don't have the time for this, then saying, gee I dunno, "I'm sorry" might be a good idea. Maybe.

While my computer was over at Troy's, I had Troy's computer techie roommate look at it. He works at a computer parts store and has a lot of his own stuff lying around, so he was able to fix me up with a pretty much new computer for relatively cheap. Sadly, it's been at Troy's for over a week while he finished up with it (he kept forgetting the last 2 things he needed for most of that time), but I've finally got it back. In fact, everything in my room is back to normal. Everything's moved back into my room, everything's clean and organized. Everthing even smells normal. Just in time for me to find a new apartment and move out by next week! Awesome.

Haha... it wasn't free. Just relatively cheaper than it would have been. I paid about $250 for what would have easily been a $700+ new system.

Let's definitely hang out while you're in Utah. I think my phone number's changed since you left, so if the number doesn't work that's why. Someone should be able to give it to you, or send me an email. :)
