Super Halloween Time!

My Spoooooky Tales of October:

Last week I went to a haunted house. It was fun... but I've decided I'm uncomfortable with haunted houses. Not because they're scary, but more because I'm never sure what my reaction is supposed to be. I guess I get giggly when I'm nervous, so I always walk through with this weird terrified laughter, which I always worry annoys the actors. And some bits are honestly more cool than they are scary, so is silently commenting on that in my head a failure on my part to be scared correctly? Regardless, it was pretty cool. A number of hilarious things happened that I won't soon forget.

Two weeks ago I carved a cool pumpkin with Ted, Dantzel, Troy, and others. Sadly, I failed to take a picture right when it was finished, and even more sadly, I failed to light the sucker after I picked up a candle to dry the insides out. So a week later I noticed that not only was the pumpkin pretty much caving in, but it was completely full of fuzzy mold on the inside. Scaaaaary mold! It no longer graces my doorway, in case you were wondering. Oh well - I guess I don't have to worry about pumpkin smashers this year.

Terrifying Tuesday

AAAAAAaaiiieeeeeee!

Goosebumps - Television Theme -- The Goosebumps marathon on CN already gave me plenty of blogging fodder, but I had to find that incredibly catchy theme song. So I searched long and hard and after about 10 whole minutes, I did. Here it is. You can watch the video of the Goosebumps intro if you want to see R. L. Stine in action (and figure out why that dog is barking). I was always amazed that the power of evil was able to turn that nice woman on the billboard into Michael Jackson.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - Underground Tunnels -- So, at the end of this game the ghost pirate LeChuck gets voo-dooed into the zombie pirate LeChuck. Then you get stuck in these underground tunnels with him, and as you walk around with nowhere to go, LeChuck will randomly enter the scene and you must perform evasive action or else he blasts you to another part of the caverns (around 1:20 is when LeChuck enters). I was about 10-12 at the time, but I can't be the only person who found this part to be terrifying. Man, the midi tunes for most of this game are horrible. That's frightening in and of itself.

Biohazard 4 - Del Lago -- Resident Evil 4 is undoubtedly one of the best survival horror games I've ever played. Though honestly, coming from me, that means it's like... best of 3 (and I'm including the end of Monkey Island 2 in that list). But most survival game connoisseurs will back this claim up, and it's a game that just kicks butt in general. Most of its soundtrack is distant ambient chords and ghostly trailing crescendos, which works beautifully in the game but less so for listening purposes. It's also incredibly difficult to pick one of two good themes here since the songs are so varied. Here's one of the more listenable tracks, from the excellent fight on the lake.

Biohazard 4 - Regenerador -- Freakiest. Enemy. Ever. I don't want to talk about it. I have to post this for the sheer fact that it's one of the most personally terrifying things I have, but holy snickers, I'm gonna have nightmares just listening to this song again. I'm just... going to post it without listening to the full 60 seconds. Have fun.

Resident Evil - Peace of Mind -- Save game theme. Real fear comes from those quiet moments of suspense that throw you off balance. The more action packed a scene is, the less "scary" it becomes. This "peaceful" tune is a break from the anxiety of the rest of the game, but in some ways is more haunting than the majority of the gameplay. Not something I regularly put on my iPod. I don't recall specifically which game this save theme is from, except that it's not 4. If you know, drop a comment so I can attribute it.

Biohazzard 4 - Mercenaries~Leon -- Yeah! Blowing stuff up! Whew, I feel better. Included with Ada's Mercenaries theme for good measure.

Kingdom Hearts - Spooks of Halloween Town -- And then bringing us completely back to spooky fun, the KH theme from Nightmare Before Christmas world. What made this world especially fun were the excellent costumes the crew wore to try and look scary. Tee hee, adorable.

Lotsa stuff this time. You know, so you don't feel gyped if you feel like skipping the super scary stuff. I gotta go finish my costume, but I'm planning on posting a picture of it later on, hopefully posing with Hiro Nakamura (of Heroes) and another star of some kind. Maybe Han Solo too. Have fun, don't pick up any evil talismans, and eat your weight in candy. If you see me on campus say hi and I'll give you some. I love this holiday.
